The honors of a nation have a direct relationship with the identity and cultural self-confidence of that nation in the process of globalization. Therefore, it seems that recognizing the cultural and artistic honors of a nation and trying to model them will be significantly effective in promoting the individual, social and national identity of that nation.
The statue of Khayyam is a clear example of the honoring of Iran's international celebrities, which we decided to build due to the importance of honoring culture, art and literature. Mohammad Hossein Mamourian, the designer and performer of Khayyam urban memorial, has made this work in order to praise wisdom and thought.
But what was most criticized after the installation of this statue was the inconsistency of the mental image of the general audience with the face of the statue.
Many people considered the sculpture to be more like Galileo or Greek myths than Khayyam for which I did not find a suitable answer either during my management period at the Mashhad Municipality Artists' House or after that. The memorial of Khayyam statue with a height of 4 meters using glassy concrete material was placed in its permanent place at the beginning of Khayyam Boulevard and the viewer will notice the greatness of this scientist by seeing this work of art.
