Amoo Norouz (Uncle Norouz)

In one of the most exciting beautification projects I have ever had, in Kish Island in 2016, more than 80 urban elements were built and placed on the island. The project had a strategic plan and a predefined strategy in order to introduce native and tourism identity concepts of Kish Island.

The components of native identity and ancient rituals of the island were the most important points in sculpture design process. Therefore, we used one of these Iranian symbols related to Nowruz In one of them. "Amoo Norouz" who is versus Nane Sarma (the granny) in old Iranian tales is the main character of symbolic and very famous story of Norouz. Among Amoo Norouz's appearance characteristics, we can mention white beard and hair, a felt hat, a silk belt, cotton pants, and thin flat shoes so called Giveh. He walks through the mountain and comes to the gate of city with a cane in hand. In the appearance of this statue, an effort was made to design according to his character so that the communication between the audience and the character would be well established.

The height of this statue, which is located on Hormoz Square of Kish Island, is 6 meters and made in fiberglass. The construction of this statue was done by Mohammad Hossein Mamorian. Unfortunately the statue was damaged in the storm in 2017 and city mangers of Kish Island refused to re-locate it.
